There he met and became friends with Edgar Degas and James Abbott McNeill Whistler.§ In 1859, He exhibited five paintings at the Paris Salon.§ Tissot fought in the Franco-Prussian War.§ In 1885, Tissot experienced a religious revelation that led him to spend the rest of his life illustrating the Bible. He made several trips to the Middle East to make studies of the landscape and people. His critically acclaimed work was a series of 365 gouache illustrations of the life of Christ.NOTABLE WORKS:What our Saviour Saw from the Cross, Jesus at Bethany, Quiet, Spring, The Annunciation, The Woman of Fashion, Young Lady in a Boat, Hide and Seek.
